RULES & EXPECTATIONS
Participation in the Crawford County Fair Queen Pageant is both an honor and a responsibility. Contestants are held to high standards of conduct, appearance, and commitment. By applying, each Contestant agrees to abide by the following rules and understands that failure to do so may result in disqualification, forfeiture of entry fees and prizes, and forfeiture of all rights and benefits of a winning Contestant.
1. Residency Requirement
Contestant must be a current resident of Crawford County, Illinois, or be enrolled in, or have graduated from, Hutsonville CUSD#1, Robinson CUSD#2, Palestine CUSD#3 or Oblong CUSD#4. Proof of residency may be requested to verify eligibility.
2. Age Requirement
For the Miss Crawford County Fair Queen Pageant, Contestant must be at least age 16 by the date of the Pageant, and must have not reached her 22nd birthday as of January 1 immediately following the date of the Pageant.
For the Junior Miss Crawford County Fair Queen Pageant, Contestant must be at least age 12, and no older than age 14, by September 1 immediately following the Pageant date, and cannot be entering the 9th or higher grade.
3. Marital & Parental Status
Contestant must be unmarried, never have been married, and have no children. Contestant must not be currently pregnant and must remain unmarried and without children throughout the duration of her reign, if selected.
4. Exclusive Pageant Participation
A Contestant entering a Crawford County Fair Queen Pageant:
•Must not be a reigning queen in any other judged pageant.
• May not participate in any other judged pageant during the competition or, if crowned, for the entire duration of her reign as Miss or Junior Miss Crawford County Fair Queen. *Exception for participation at the Miss Illinois County Fair Queen Pageant, only.
5. Criminal & Disciplinary Background
Contestant must never have been convicted of any felony or misdemeanor offense. Further, Contestant must not have had a disciplinary action resulting in suspension from any school. Contestant must disclose any and all criminal and school disciplinary actions. The Pageant Director has the authority to waive the strict application of this rule for offenses that occurred in the distant past with extenuating circumstances, so long as such offense is first disclosed by the Contestant. The Pageant Director’s decision is final in this regard.
6. Substance Use Policy
Contestant must not use or consume illegal controlled substances, and must abstain from drinking alcohol, using recreational drugs, vaping, or smoking. Engaging in any of these activities at any time during the pageant season may result in immediate disqualification, and forfeiture of entry fees and prizes, as well as all rights and benefits of the Miss/Jr. Miss Crawford County Fair Queen.
7. Moral Character & Conduct
Contestant is held to a high standard of personal behavior, as follows:
•Must be of good moral character and must never have performed or engaged in any activity or employment considered immoral, indecent, or controversial.
•All social media accounts (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat) are expected to reflect the dignity and values of the Crawford County Fair Queen Pageant. Contestant should diligently screen all new friend requests, adds and comments posted to her social media accounts, in order to adhere to this rule.
•The Pageant Director reserves the right to review social media at any time. Inappropriate or profane content may result in immediate disqualification.
•Reports of misconduct, bullying, or unfair behavior during pageant practices or events may lead to disqualification and loss of entry fee.
•The final adjudicator of all improper or immoral character and conduct shall be the Pageant Director.
8. Appearance Guidelines
•Piercings: Only one piercing per earlobe is permitted during pageant season. All other visible piercings (ear or body) must be removed during all pageant practices, events, and appearances.
•Tattoos: All visible tattoos must be completely covered during practices, pageant night, and official appearances.
•Alterations: If crowned, the Contestant agrees not to make changes to her appearance (including new tattoos, piercings, or hair color changes) for the duration of her reign, without prior approval by the Pageant Director.
9. Gender Eligibility
Contestant must have been born female and always identified as female.
10. Behavior at Official Events
The Contestant agrees to:
•Always behave in a respectful and professional manner.
•Be punctual, cooperative, and courteous during rehearsals, events, and appearances.
•Follow all rules and regulations of the Crawford County Fair Queen Pageant and the rules and regulations of all subsequent related events.
•Represent Crawford County and the Fair with pride and integrity.
11. Crawford County Fair Queen Pageant Format & Judging
Contestant agrees that:
•Junior Miss Contestants will be personally/privately interviewed for 3 minutes, and Miss Contestants for 4 minutes, by a panel of 3 judges. During the interview, Contestant is required to wear a long, ¾ or short sleeved, knee-length business dress, skirt suit, or jumpsuit/pantsuit with jacket, with closed-toe or strappy (secured by a strap around the back of the foot/ankle), taupe 2-inch heels, or
platforms no higher than 1 inch. No embellishments on shoes or colored shoes are allowed. Small earrings are allowed.
•Junior Miss and Miss Contestants will learn and present a dance choreographed by the Miss Crawford County Fair Queen or her representative. Contestants will be given a t-shirt and shall wear white tennis shoes and jean shorts (no shorter than fingertip length) that do not have rips, holes, patches, words, etc.
•Junior Miss Contestants will present a speech on stage, on a topic chosen by the Pageant Director, for a length of 30 seconds. Miss Contestants will present a speech on a topic of the Contestant's choice on stage with a maximum length of 60 seconds. No stories from the internet, artificial intelligence use, props, poems, singing, or rhyming is allowed during the prepared speech. During this portion of the pageant, Contestant will wear her interview outfit as described above.
•Junior Miss Contestants will work with the Pageant Director to create a unique way to present a personal talent in a coordinating outfit.
•Miss Contestants will model a one-piece, one-color swimsuit (Swimsuit must cover the hip bones in the front and completely cover Contestant’s bottom in the back.) with closed-toe or strappy (secured by a strap around the back of the foot or ankle), taupe 2-inch heels, or platforms no higher than 1 inch. No embellishments on shoes or colored shoes allowed. Only stud earrings are allowed with swimsuit.
•Miss and Junior Miss Contestants will answer a pop question on stage, after modeling a floor-length evening gown. The gown must be floor length in the front and back. No high-low hems or two-piece gowns are allowed. No jumpsuits or pantsuits. Slits in gowns must be no higher than 5 inches above the top of the knee. No U-slits/rounded cut out slits allowed. No V’s or necklines lower than the nipple line. Front bodice and side panels of the gown must be solid fabric – no see-through material. Color cannot be metallic or reflective. No gloves may be worn. Shoes may be any color, but they should blend in with the dress (a color matching the dress is recommended, but silver, gold, or clear may be appropriate.), 2-inch heels, or platforms no higher than 1 inch, and shoes must be appropriate for dress style. Jewelry of contestant’s choice allowed (No longer than 3-inch earrings, and the jewelry should not overwhelm the Contestant).
•All wardrobe (shoes, jewelry, clothing) must be approved by the Pageant Director before the final practice.
•Renting or borrowing items to minimize costs is encouraged.
•Contestant shall wear hair and makeup in a sensible style appropriate for their attire during the interview and pageant.
•Contestant’s nails may be painted and manicured to a sensible length which does not interfere with any responsibilities of the pageant.
•All clothing, jewelry, shoes, and accessories are the responsibility of the Contestant to obtain, clean, and keep safe during practices and the pageant. The Pageant Director is not responsible for any lost or broken items.
•The decision of the judges is final.
12. Photo Release & Social Media
By entering the pageant, the Contestant grants permission for the use of her name, image, and likeness in promotional materials, photos, press coverage, and social media related to the Crawford County Fair and Fair Queen Pageant. Contestant likewise agrees to refrain from posting, and refrain from allowing friends and family from posting, about official appearances and events of the Miss and Junior Miss Crawford County Fair Queen until such time as the official Crawford County Fair Queen Pageant social media accounts have posted about such official appearances and events, unless prior approval from the Pageant Director has been given.
13. Attendance & Commitment
Contestants must be available for:
•All scheduled practices and events leading up to the pageant.
•Appearances and duties during fair week.
•Additional appearances and events throughout the year, if crowned.
14. Additional Appearances & Events if Crowned, and Rules
Junior Miss Crawford County Fair Queen shall be available for and attend the following appearances and events:
•Crawford County Fair Week, AM and PM events. Speak with the Pageant Director for a list of required and optional events.
•Crawford County parades, including but not limited to: Hutsonville Riverfest (August), Flat Rock Homecoming (August), Palestine Labor Day, Robinson Heath Harvest Festival (October), Oblong Spooktacular (October), Robinson Christmas Parade (November)
•(Optional) Visiting surrounding county fair queen pageants during the term of her reign
•(Optional) Additional public appearances and community involvement as coordinated by or with the Pageant Director
•(Optional) County Fair Day at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield, IL (August 2025) - (need to know # of people attending for tickets)
•(Optional) Miss Illinois County Fair Queen Pageant as part of the Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs (IAAF) Convention, Springfield, IL (January 2026)

Miss Crawford County Fair Queen shall be available for and attend the following appearances and events:
• Crawford County Fair Week, AM and PM events. Speak with the Pageant Director for a list of required and optional events.
• Visiting surrounding county fair queen pageants during the term of her reign
• Crawford County parades, including but not limited to: Hutsonville Riverfest (August), Flat Rock Homecoming (August), Palestine Labor Day, Robinson Heath Harvest Festival (October), Oblong Spooktacular (October), Robinson Christmas Parade (November)
• County Fair Day at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield, IL (August 2025) - (need to know # of people attending for tickets)
• Southern Zone Meeting & Mock Interview in Salem, IL (November 2025).
• Miss Illinois County Fair Queen Pageant as part of the Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs (IAAF) Convention, Springfield, IL (January 2026)
