Scramble Rules and Regulations

Barnyard Scramble Rules
The Barnyard Scramble is a family-friendly event designed to provide children with a fun, supervised opportunity to safely interact with farm animals while promoting responsible animal handling, respect for agriculture, and good sportsmanship. The Crawford County Fair Association is committed to the humane care and treatment of all animals participating in this event.

General Rules
All participants must complete the required registration and liability forms prior to participating, unless otherwise specified for their age division. Participants must meet the age requirements established by the Fair Association. Parents or legal guardians may accompany younger participants as directed by event officials. Participants must follow all instructions given by event officials and volunteers at all times. Event officials reserve the right to modify, suspend, or end the event at any time if participant or animal safety becomes a concern. Event officials shall have final authority regarding all rules, questions, and disputes. ⸻

Animal Welfare
Rabbits, chickens, goats, and pigs participating in the Barnyard Scramble are generously provided by local owners for this event. Ownership of all animals remains with their respective owners throughout the event. All animals are supervised by event officials and volunteers before, during, and after participation. Any animal displaying signs of illness, injury, or excessive stress will be removed from participation immediately. Contestants shall not strike, throw, drag, intentionally frighten, or otherwise mistreat any animal. Any participant engaging in rough or abusive handling will be immediately removed from the event. Once a participant has safely secured an animal, no other participant may interfere with or attempt to take possession of that animal. ⸻

Barnyard Scramble
Participants shall safely catch an animal and immediately present it to an event official or volunteer. After each catch, all animals shall be immediately returned to the designated holding area under the supervision of event officials unless otherwise provided for under the Rabbit Adoption section. Chickens, goats, and pigs are catch-and-release only and remain the property of their respective owners at all times. Pigs participate in one scramble only and are removed from the arena immediately following their participation. Event officials may remove any animal from participation at any time if its welfare may be compromised. ⸻

Optional Rabbit Adoption
 Following the conclusion of the Barnyard Scramble, rabbits may be made available for adoption by their owner.
Rabbit adoption is entirely voluntary and is separate from participation in the Barnyard Scramble. Participation in the Barnyard Scramble does not guarantee the adoption of a rabbit. Families interested in adopting a rabbit may complete the owner’s adoption process and pay the applicable adoption fee established by the rabbit owner. Rabbits not adopted will remain with their owner or be placed by the owner with another approved adopter. ⸻

Safety & Conduct
Participants must wear appropriate footwear. Participants are expected to conduct themselves in a safe and respectful manner toward fellow contestants, volunteers, and animals. Failure to follow event rules or directions from officials may result in immediate removal from the event. The decisions of event officials are final.

No mistreatment of animals. If you are caught mistreating the animals, you will be asked to leave the track.
3 -4 - 5-year-olds require no application for rabbits
